History & significance

An early ninth-century Shiva temple at Gopinathpur in Baramba, important as an early example of the pancharatha deula with a rekha sanctuary and terraced jagamohana. Unusually it carries both Shaiva and Vaishnava sculpture and follows a panchayatana layout with subsidiary shrines to Vishnu, Ganesha, Surya and Mahishamardini.
