One of the 108 Divya Desams, a village shrine 19 km from Kumbakonam where Vishnu is worshipped as the bow-bearing Kola Valvill Ramar, praised in the Nalayira Divya Prabandham.

Sthala katha — the legend

The divine architect Mayan is said to have raised this temple by the Kaveri as an earthly Vaikuntha at Brahma's bidding.
