History & significance

A Shiva temple at about 3,497 m in the Garhwal Himalaya of Uttarakhand and one of the five shrines of the Panch Kedar pilgrimage. Its design resembles those at Kedarnath and Tungnath.

Sthala katha — the legend

The navel and stomach of the bull-form of Shiva are said to have surfaced here after the animal broke apart in Bhima's grasp.
