History & significance

The first large Hindu temple built in Delhi, raised by the industrialists Baldeo Das and Jugal Kishore Birla and inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi's condition that it stay open to worshippers of all castes made it an early landmark of temple-entry reform.
