History & significance

The signature achievement of contemporary temple building: 11,000 artisans and volunteers carved this complex in five years without structural steel, earning Guinness recognition among the largest comprehensive Hindu temple complexes. Its exhibitions, boat ride and musical fountain made it a template for BAPS's global mandirs from New Jersey to Abu Dhabi.

Sthala katha — the legend

Conceived from a wish of Yogiji Maharaj that a great mandir rise on the Yamuna's bank, realised two generations later by Pramukh Swami Maharaj — the central murti of Swaminarayan is ringed by 20,000 carved figures of India's saints and devas.
