Two shrines facing each other across the Vavali river inside an eighty-acre sacred forest in Kannur district: the permanent Thruchherumana temple on the west bank, raised over a swayambhu linga, and a temporary eastern shrine opened only for the 27-day Vysakha Mahotsavam. It is managed by the Malabar Devaswom Board.
The eastern bank is held to be the place where Daksha's sacrifice ended and Sati gave up her life, which is why the site is counted among the origins of the Shakti Peethas.
