A major Shakta temple at the foot of the Kodachadri hills on the Souparnika river in Udupi district, dated to about 800 CE and associated with the patron Halugallu Veera Sangayya. Its sanctum holds a self-manifested linga together with a four-armed panchaloha image of the goddess, whose installation is ascribed to Adi Shankara.
The goddess is said to have struck the demon Mookasura dumb so that he could not ask Shiva for a boon, and then killed him when he harassed the sage Kola Maharshi.
