Kolayat, Bikaner, Rajasthan · 27.8333°, 72.9500°
A pilgrimage town in Bikaner district built around a desert lake ringed by 52 bathing ghats, marble temples and sandstone pavilions, centred on the sage Kapila. Its Kartik fair draws thousands of pilgrims and doubles as a camel market.
Kapila is believed to have shed his body here beneath a peepal tree, and bathers hold that the lake washes away sin.
