Ganpatipule, Ratnagiri, Maharashtra · 17.1448°, 73.2666°
A shrine on the Konkan shore in Ratnagiri district whose west-facing image, said to have risen from the soil, makes it one of coastal Maharashtra's busiest pilgrimage and tourist destinations.
Local tradition holds that Ganpati moved here from nearby Gule after taking offence at a villager's remark, the name Pule meaning that he came forward.
