బావికొండ
Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh · 17.8172°, 83.3908°
A hilltop Buddhist monastery complex of stupas and viharas about 16 km from Visakhapatnam, protected as a monument and dated to the third century BCE. Excavations by the state archaeology department yielded pottery, coins, tiles, inscriptions and relic caskets, among them an urn holding a piece of bone taken to be a relic of the Buddha; the name means 'hill of wells' in Telugu, after its rainwater cisterns.
