History & significance

A 19.2 m brick rekha deul on the Dwarakeswar river, called by Nalini Bhattasali probably the finest medieval brick deul in Bengal, with cut-brick and lime-stucco ornament. Archaeology points to an earlier Jain or Buddhist shrine on the site, later reconsecrated to Shiva; carvings of Parshvanatha and Mahishasuramardini survive on it, and it is an ASI monument of national importance.
