The only lake temple in Kerala, standing at the centre of a two-acre tank in Kasaragod district, with Vishnu seated on the five-hooded serpent Anantha, a wooden ceiling carved with the ten avatars and painted navagrahas. The original images, made of medicinal materials, were replaced with panchaloha in 1972.
Sage Vilwamangalam is said to have been visited here by Narayana in the form of a child who vanished into a cave when scolded; following him southward, the sage found him become a tree in the shape of Vishnu reclining on the serpent, the deity having moved on to Thiruvananthapuram.
