History & significance

A Paadal Petra Sthalam where Shiva is worshipped in the Somaskanda form, with attendant shrines of Ganesha, Durga and Murugan. Its glory was sung by the Saivite saints in the medieval Tevaram poems.

The saint Sundarar is believed to have been cleansed of sin at Thirukkurukavur after his victory in debate over the Jains.
