History & significance

A 10th-century Kongu Chola temple near Tiruppur, its walls carrying 68 inscriptions of Vikrama Chola, revered in the Tevaram and classed as a garden temple (Kokkudi Koil) among the Paadal Petra Sthalams.

Sthala katha — the legend

Murugan is said to have worshipped his father here to shed the sin of slaying Surapadma, digging a spring with his vel to purify himself.
