History & significance

A Paadal Petra Sthalam near Patteeswaram whose lingam bears the mark of Parvati's embrace, glorified in the Tevaram hymns. Devotees pray here to be blessed with the life partner of their choice.

Sthala katha — the legend

Parvati is said to have done penance here and embraced Shiva when he appeared as a column of fire, giving the place its name Sakthimutram.
