A Rama temple of the 108 Divya Desams standing above the confluence where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi unite to form the Ganga. Traditionally established by Adi Shankara, with evidence of existence by the 9th-10th century and later Garhwal royal expansion.
Rama is believed to have done penance here to cleanse himself of the sin of slaying Ravana, a Brahmin king.
