One of the Six Abodes of Murugan, carved into the Thiruparankundram hillock by the Pandyas in the 6th century, with the Shiva shrine of Parangirinathar making it a Paadal Petra Sthalam as well. Nayak-era pillared halls front the ancient cave sanctum.
After slaying the asura Surapadman at Tiruchendur, Murugan is said to have married Indra's daughter Deivanai here.
