A Divya Desam on the Bharathappuzha river and the storied venue of the Mamankam, the great fair held once every twelve years from at least the 8th century CE. It remains one of Kerala's principal riverside shrines for ancestral rites.
Nine yogis are said to have installed images here; eight sank into the earth, and the ninth, arrested at its knees, became Navamukunda.
