The Divya Desam of Thirunaraiyur near Kumbakonam, where the goddess Vanjulavalli ranks above Vishnu himself; its stone Garuda is famed for growing heavier as it is carried in procession. Tradition credits the original shrine to Kochengat Cholan.
Vishnu is said to have married Vanjulavalli, foster daughter of sage Medhavi, on the condition that she would always receive first honours.
