History & significance

A Paadal Petra Sthalam of the Tevaram, renowned for its shrine of Lalithambika: tradition holds that the Lalita Sahasranama was composed here and taught to Agastya by Hayagriva.

Sthala katha — the legend

Garuda and Aruna, mounts of Vishnu and Surya, are said to have been born here to Vinata and Kadru after the sisters worshipped Shiva.
