Shakti Peetha — The Mangla Gauri Temple article places the Gaya shrine among the eighteen Maha Shakta pithas, and Wikipedia's 18-list gives it Sati's breast as Sarvamangala, but it does not appear in the combined Shakta pithas table (as of 2026). source

History & significance

A hilltop Shakta shrine on Mangalagauri hill in Gaya, counted among the eighteen maha Shakta pithas and named in the Padma, Vayu and Agni Puranas. The present rock-cut temple dates to the fifteenth century and is credited to Maadho Giri Ji Maharaj; subsidiary shrines to Kali, Ganesha, Hanuman and Shiva stand in the complex, an unusual Shakta focus in a city dominated by Vaishnava pilgrimage.
