One of the thirteen Kerala Divya Desams and unusual in being dedicated to Lakshmana, with a circular granite-and-laterite sreekovil in classic Kerala style. It is also a station of the Nalambalam pilgrimage of the four Ramayana brothers.
Vishnu is said to have imparted the 'Thiru Mozhi', sacred words of guidance, to the sage Harita here, giving the place its name.
