The temple of Courtallam by its famous waterfalls, laid out on a conch-shaped plan and housing the Chitra Sabha, one of the five cosmic dance halls of Nataraja; Sambandar's Tevaram places it among the Paadal Petra Sthalams.

Sthala katha — the legend

Sage Agastya, unable to attend Shiva's wedding in the north, prayed here and was granted a vision of the lord in full marriage attire.
