History & significance

A hill temple rising in three tiers over Piranmalai, sung by Sambandar among the Paadal Petra Sthalams; the Marudu brothers of Sivaganga were among its later patrons.

Sthala katha — the legend

Piranmalai itself is said to be a block of Mount Meru blown off during the contest between the serpent king Adisesha and the wind god Vayu.
