History & significance

A Shakta pitha in Murshidabad district said to be over a thousand years old, destroyed in 1405 and rebuilt in the 19th century by Darpanarayan, king of Lalgola. It was named India's Best Tourism Village in 2023.

Sthala katha — the legend

The crown (kirit) of Sati is believed to have fallen here after her self-immolation, giving the shrine and the village their name.
