History & significance

A twin-shrine Shiva complex at Thirukachur, one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams glorified in the Tevaram hymns of the Nayanars. Its roots reach back to at least the 8th century, while the present masonry dates from the 16th-century Nayak period.

Sthala katha — the legend

Shiva is said to have appeared here and fed the hungry saint Sundarar, an act recalled during the temple's nine-day Brahmotsavam.
