History & significance

An old Kali shrine at Ishwaripur in Satkhira district, counted among the 51 Shakta pithas as the place where Sati's palm fell. Its present form is associated with Maharaja Pratapaditya of Jessore, with earlier renovation attributed to Lakshman Sen.

Sthala katha — the legend

A general of Pratapaditya is said to have followed a beam of light into the bushes and found a stone carved in the shape of a human palm, whereupon the king raised a temple to Kali on the spot.
