The Divya Desam of Therazhundur in Mayiladuthurai district, whose deity Amaruviappan - the lord flanked by cattle - is traced by tradition to Karikala Chola's time, with 11th-century Chola additions.

Sthala katha — the legend

Brahma, having driven off Krishna's cattle, is said to have begged pardon and asked the god to abide here, where the herds gathered around him.
