History & significance

A Shiva temple in Tiruvallur district counted among the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams celebrated in the Thevaram hymns. It is remembered as the place where the saint Sambandar met Shiva and was moved to compose verses.

Sthala katha — the legend

Shiva is said to have appeared to Sambandar here in the guise of an old man and commanded him to sing in his praise.
