The linga is invisible beneath a mound of centuries of ghee abhishekam that never spoils.
Held in tradition to be the first temple consecrated by Parashurama after he raised Kerala from the sea with a throw of his axe; Shiva appeared to him here beneath a banyan as the northern lord — Vadakkum-nathan.
