History & significance

The third of the eight Ashtavinayaka shrines and the only one in the Ahilyanagar (Ahmednagar) district; its image is unusual in having a right-turned trunk.

Sthala katha — the legend

Vishnu is said to have performed penance here invoking Ganesha, receiving the siddhis with which he overcame the demons Madhu and Kaitabha.
