Orchha, Madhya Pradesh · 25.3508°, 78.6398°
The only temple where Rama is worshipped as a king, and in a palace rather than a purpose-built shrine; it was established by Madhukar Shah of Orchha and his queen and receives hundreds of thousands of visitors a year.
Queen Ganesh Kunwari is said to have received the child Rama in her lap at the Sarayu in Ayodhya and to have brought him to Orchha on three conditions, after which the image refused to be moved from her palace.
