History & significance

The hill temple of Radha at Barsana, built in red sandstone in 1675 and the focus of the town's Radhashtami and Lathmar Holi festivals. It is among the principal Braj pilgrimage sites.

Sthala katha — the legend

Radha's father Vrishbhanu is said to have made his home on the Bhanugarh hill at Barsana after leaving Kamsa's Mathura.
