The best-known shrine of Golu Devta, a regional god of justice worshipped throughout Kumaon and Garhwal and treated as a form of Bhairava. It stands on the ridge at Chitai outside Almora and draws petitioners who bring their grievances to the deity.
A prince born to King Halrai was cast into the Gori river by jealous co-queens and rescued by a fisherman; he later returned to expose the injustice and was deified as the god of justice.
