An 18th-century Durga temple beside the Durga Kund tank in Varanasi, built at the expense of the Bengali queen Rani Bhabani of Natore. Its red-and-ochre exterior and adjoining stepped tank make it one of the city's most recognisable shrines.
The temple is said to commemorate Durga appearing on her lion to help the Kashi Naresh defeat invading kings, after which she promised to guard Varanasi.
